A Look into 3D Art and Why You Should Include It In Your Collection

A Look into 3D Art and Why You Should Include It In Your Collection

May 23, 2024

Three dimensional art or 3D art refers to the type of artwork that is viewable from all angles. So although paintings can have three dimensional depictions through framing and technique, it can only be viewed from a certain perspective because of the flat canvas. The earliest form of 3D art are sculptures which were used for religious ceremonies and daily hunting rituals. They were always thought to embody magical qualities that will allow those who had them to accomplish their ends.

Later 3D art was used to commemorate rulers and events within their empires. The art was propaganda which idealized and justified their agendas. At the same time, 3D art in the form of Indian and Greek sculptures celebrated the human body as the pinnacle of creation in nature, inspired by mythological and religious figures.

3D art before the modern period was made mainly for the 3 purposes of politics, religion and sensuality.

But with the advent of modern artists, those aspects of life that were once sacred were being criticized and deconstructed. Artists sought to go beyond the limits of conventional subject-matter and started  experimenting with new methods in creating art. They began depicting ideas, nature and humans as abstract objects. Taking inspiration from non-Western art and modern consumerist cultures, art went against the dominant tradition which ended with it ultimately questioning humanity’s place in the world.

That is why it still remains so relevant because it is a continuing conversation about human values throughout history. So if you’re interested in 3D art here are the 3 reasons to add it to your art collection:

3 Reasons to Include 3D Art in Your Collection

1. Presence

3D art has a physical presence unlike other artworks that can only be viewed passively. Three dimensional art engages all of your senses and spatial awareness in experiencing the work’s message. It also becomes a meaningful part of whatever space you choose it to be in.

2. Details

There can be many small details engraved into 3D art that are usually not present in different art forms. Small wrinkles felt on the skin of human sculptures, little words and minute textures displayed on objects or models. It’s a work that isn’t just seen with your eyes but understood through touch.

3. Timelessness

Nearly all types of 3D art are made to last a long time due to the durability of its materials. Regardless of art movement or style it is still made unique by the fact that it can be looked at from multiple perspectives. That is why public art is mostly three dimensional art as it is serves as a symbol of people's ideals.

Seeing New Dimensions In Art

Many artists have tried giving their own answers to the question of human beings' place in history. But contemporary art changed this approach by focusing on small, personal things which wouldn’t normally be valued by society: a cherished memory, an inexpressible feeling or idea, a simple object. 3D art today has been transforming the little things we take for granted into grand monuments, challenging people to reconsider what is truly important in society.

Three dimensional art not only affords us many perspectives but also imposes a timeless message on your life, acting as a reminder of the things people should continue to value in this world.
